OBERON GAMES LAUNCHES MERV GRIFFIN’S CROSSWORDS™
Casual Game Now Available for Download
New York — February 11, 2008 — Give your grey matter the ultimate workout with Oberon Games’ latest title, Merv Griffin’s Crosswords™. From Program Partners and Merv Griffin Entertainment (MGE), Crosswords was the brain child of Merv Griffin, creator of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
The game is modeled on the hit TV show, which has just been renewed for a second year running on the back of its best ratings of the season. Merv’s amazing ability to design addictive gameplay the whole family can enjoy is clear in the online version of this fast-paced, totally new take on crossword puzzles, now available for download.
Merv Griffin’s Crosswords™ combines the fun of classic crosswords with rapid, nail-biting game show action in an incredibly addictive and accessible casual game. Players race against the clock to solve each crossword clue as they build the puzzle for the final round. Watch out for the spoilers. They’ll steal your prizes, and your pride!
With three unique rounds, players increase their ranking from beginner to “Puzzle Professional”; score “Combos” to boost their score; earn virtual “Crossword Getaways” in every round; admire their achievements in the prize room and bet big on “Crossword Extras” to rack up points and win prizes.
According to Ron Ward and Robert Pritchard who head Merv Griffin Entertainment, “Merv was enthusiastic about the crossover potential for ‘Crosswords’ via the internet. Oberon has more than fulfilled his expectations and ours with this inspired PC version.”
Hosted by daytime star Ty Treadway, television’s Merv Griffin’s Crosswords™ is a new generation half-hour game show. The series is the #1 new game show in syndication and has just been renewed for a second season.
Don Ryan, Oberon Media’s SVP of Publishing commented, “Merv Griffin was the master of the television game show, so we’re naturally very excited to be working with his company to launch Merv Griffin’s Crosswords™ for the PC. Merv himself was one of an estimated 16 million Americans who do crossword puzzles every day, so we anticipate strong interest in this great new game. ”
